Meet Boudicca

About the Band

Whilst in college, guitarist, John originally came up with the name Boudicca (he got his BA in history, you see). The band was originally going to be a hard rock guitar driven band with lots of distortion with his wife, Angelena as the female front...

Well after a few false starts, the couple realized their hearts weren't really into the concept. As time passed it occurred that since Angelena has extensive experience with Middle Eastern music and bellydance, and both Angelena and John have a history with Celtic/folk music, both schooled in Jazz with a firm rock and blues roots, it was a natural progression to get interested in something that involves a large cross section of thier influences.

Angelena started writing songs. Danceable rock tunes with heavy arabic percussion and belt out lyrics and epic historic modal ballads with beautiful harmonies and catchy sing along choruses became the norm. John started bringing rock riffs and catchy chord progressions to the table with Guitar God quality.

Recruited (some say abducted) early on, drummer Ian Luke has from scratch, developed a brand new drumset tradition, bridging the Western school and the Arabic iqaat with an attractive, streamlined, and accountable melding of rhythms allowing for a gelled, in the groove feel. Numerous drummers look to his playing as the quintessential example of how to play Arabic rhythms on drumset.

Boudicca specializes in thier nich audiences, but a fun stage presence, humor, and completly amazing performaces have attracted vast audiences allowing their performances to be conducted on both intimate and very large scales.

Currently held by indie lable Crowzar Records, go-getter band is currently self managed and promoted. This web site and all contained therin is a product of member's efforts.
